What is the telegram app –

Telegram is a cloud-based instant messaging app that was launched on August 14, 2013, by Pavel Durov and his brother Nikolai. It quickly gained popularity for its focus on privacy, security, and features like encrypted messaging, self-destructing messages, and more.

Telegram’s privacy and security system:

  1. End-to-end Encryption: Telegram uses end-to-end encryption for Secret Chats. This means that only the sender and the recipient can read the messages. Telegram itself cannot access these messages, nor can any third parties.
  2. Secret Chats: Secret Chats are a specific type of conversation in Telegram that is designed to be more secure. They are not stored on Telegram’s servers and can only be accessed on the devices involved in the conversation.
  3. Self-Destruct Timer: In Secret Chats, you can set a timer for messages to self-destruct after they’ve been read. This adds an extra layer of security to sensitive conversations.
  4. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Telegram allows users to set up two-factor authentication, which adds an extra layer of security by requiring a one-time code sent to your mobile device in addition to your password.
  5. Cloud-Based Messaging: While regular chats are stored on Telegram’s servers, they are encrypted in transit. This allows you to access your messages from multiple devices, but the encryption keys are kept on your devices.
  6. Secret Chat Device Key Verification: In Secret Chats, you can verify the encryption key of the other participant using QR codes or a numerical code. This ensures that the person you’re communicating with is who they say they are.
  7. Screen Security: Telegram includes an option to prevent screenshots from being taken during Secret Chats, adding an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access.
  8. Passcode Lock: You can set up a passcode lock for the Telegram app on your device to prevent unauthorized access.
  9. Privacy Settings: Telegram provides a range of privacy settings that allow you to control who can see your profile picture, last seen status and contact information.
  10. Anonymous Forwarding: Telegram allows users to forward messages without revealing the original sender’s information. This can help protect the identity of the original source.
  11. Reporting and Blocking: Users can report spam and block unwanted contacts to enhance their personal security.
